New Delhi, August 9: The central government has sent the Waqf (Amendment) Bill-2024 related to the property of the Muslim community to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for further consideration. Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced this bill in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Kiren Rijiju presented a proposal in this regard in the Lok Sabha on Friday and proposed 21 names from the House for the committee. The Joint Parliamentary Committee includes Jagadambika Pal, Dr Nishikant Dubey, Tejaswi Surya, Aparajita Sarangi, Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Dilip Saikia, Abhijit Gangopadhyay, DK Aruna (all BJP), Gaurav Gogoi, Imran Masood, Dr. Mohammad Javed (all Congress), Mohibulla (SP), Kalyan Banerjee (Trinamool Congress), A Raja (DMK), Lavu Sri Krishna Devaraylu (TDP), Dileshwar Kamait (RJD), Arvind Sawant (Shiv Sena-UBT), Suresh Gopinath Mhatre (NCP-SP), Naresh Ganpat Mhaske (Shiv Sena), Arun Bharti (LJP-Ram Vilas) and Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM) from the Lok Sabha.
Apart from this, 10 more names will be added to this committee from the Rajya Sabha.
Rijiju said that the committee will report on the last day of the first week of the next session. Along with this, the Rajya Sabha has also been asked to decide the names for the committee.
It is noteworthy that on Thursday, Kiren Rijiju introduced the Waqf (Amendment) Bill-2024 in the Lok Sabha. Along with this, the ‘Muslim Waqf (Repeal) Bill-2024’ was also introduced to remove the old inactive act related to it from the papers. The name of the new bill will be the Integrated Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act. The name in English is Unified Work Management Empowerment Efficient and Development (Umeed).
