New Delhi, 08 September: The first possible case of deadly and infectious viral disease monkeypox (MPox) has been reported in India. The Union Health Ministry has given information in this regard today. The ministry says that investigation is going on and there is no need to worry.

The ministry said that a young male patient who recently returned from a foreign trip has been identified as a suspected patient of monkeypox. The patient has been isolated in a designated hospital and is currently in stable condition. He has traveled to a country where monkeypox cases have been found.

Samples of the patient are being tested to confirm the presence of monkeypox. The case is being managed as per established protocols and contact tracing is ongoing to identify potential sources and assess the impact within the country.

According to the ministry, the development of this case is in line with the earlier risk assessment done by the NCDC and there is no reason for any unnecessary concern. The country is fully prepared to deal with such different travel-related cases and strong measures have been taken to manage and mitigate any potential risks.
