Lucknow: Girl commits suicide after observing ‘Karva Chauth’ fast

Hamirpur, 21 October: A married woman who kept fast on ‘Karva Chauth’ for the long life of her husband committed suicide by hanging herself on Monday. This incident has created a panic situation among the family members. The deceased had a love marriage with her cousin two years ago. Police took the dead body and started investigation, police told.

As per police, Sulabh Kumar, a resident of Jalalapur village, had a love marriage with Sarika, a resident of Fatehpur, two years ago. Sarika was a cousin. Both the families were tensed for a long time about this marriage. The family members also did not want these two to get married, but the family backed off in front of the stubbornness of both. After marriage, Sarika (21)’s married life was going on happily. She had made big preparations at home on Karva Chauth. She fasted the entire day. At night, as soon as the moon came out, she performed the Puja as per rituals. Then after performing the Aarti, Sarika also performed the Aarti of her husband with a sieve. After completing the fast of Karva Chauth, she gave him water with her own hands.

According to the family members, after having dinner late at night, both of them had a quarrel over something. On which she went to her room and hanged herself. Today, on Monday, the family members were shocked to see Sarika hanging from the noose. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and took the body in custody and sent it for postmortem.

The girl was married to her cousin two years ago.

Sulabh told that Sarika was married two years ago. The family members were not happy with this marriage. But later everything became normal.

He told that there was no such thing in the house, but after observing the fast of Karva Chauth, there was a minor quarrel, due to which Sarika took a suicidal step, which he had never imagined.

Jalalpur police station in-charge Brijmohan told that the postmortem of the body is being done. Action will be taken upon receipt of the complaint.
