Mumbai / Patna, January 09: Most wanted gangster Ejaz Lakdawala has been remanded in police custody by a Mumbai court on Thursday till January 21. Lakdawala, a close aide of underworld don Chhota Rajan and once a henchman of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim (D-Company), was arrested from Patna, Bihar’s capital on Wednesday and reached Mumbai on transit remand. It is being told that Lakdawala reached Patna via Nepal, where the Mumbai Police caught him with the help of Bihar Police. He has more than 25 cases registered.
During the press conference, Mumbai Police Joint Commissioner Santosh Rastogi confirmed that Lakdawala was sent to police custody till January 21. He informed that Lakdawala was arrested from Patna. Mumbai Police arrested Lakdawala’s daughter Sonia Lakdawala from Mumbai Airport a few days ago. During her interrogation, it was learned that Lakdawala was about to reach Patna. After this, the police arrested him with the help of Jattanpur police station in Patna.
Lakdawala is believed to be close to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. In 2003, rumors spread that he had been killed in an attack by the Dawood Ibrahim gang in Bangkok, but had somehow escaped. After that he reached Canada from Bangkok and was staying there for a long time. Sources reveal that Dawood was angry with Lakdawala because he had joined hands with Chhota Rajan.
On Lakdawala’s arrest, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that the police had done a great job by arresting Lakdawala. He was using a fake passport in the name of Manish Advani. He has been arrested from Patna Airport. Investigation is on whether he came here from Nepal or fleeing here to Nepal.
According to police, Lakdawala had also lived in Canada, Malaysia, America and Nepal before coming to Patna. Lakdawala was missing since the year 2004. He used to work for D-Company before forming his own gang. He has more than 25 cases of extortion, attempted murder and rioting.
It is noteworthy that earlier this year a builder from Khar filed a recovery case against Ejaz Lakdawala and his brother Akil. Akil was arrested in March.
