New Delhi, November 28: The proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha fell prey to the ruckus of the opposition on Thursday as well. Due to the uproar in both the houses over the Adani bribe and Sambhal case, the proceedings were first adjourned at 12 noon and later for the whole day.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi and Nanded MP Ravindra Chavan took oath of membership in the Lok Sabha today. After this, the proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon. Even when the proceedings resumed in the afternoon, the uproar of the opposition continued. As a result, the proceedings were adjourned for the whole day.
A proposal to extend the tenure of the Joint Parliamentary Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 till the last day of the Budget Session was passed by voice vote in the Lok Sabha today. The proposal was moved by the Chairman of the Committee, Jagdambika Pal.
During this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the opposition for not allowing the proceedings of the Lok Sabha to continue. He said that in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, all the members had agreed to discuss the bills and let the work go on properly. However, there is a ruckus here.
He also condemned the ruckus created by the opposition during the extension of the tenure of the Waqf related committee. He said that there was a unanimous agreement to extend the tenure of the committee but the opposition is creating a ruckus during the voting on the proposal.
Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reminded the opposition of the 75th anniversary of the Constitution and said that there were disagreements and debates in the Constituent Assembly as well but this kind of ruckus is not right. He said that during the 75 years of the Constitution, there were debates in the Constituent Assembly as well, disagreements and consensus were also formed but everyone maintained a decent conduct. He will give the opposition enough time and opportunity on every issue.
Meanwhile, proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were also disrupted. At the beginning of the morning proceedings, Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh introduced a motion for elections to the Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, which was approved by the Rajya Sabha.
The proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were first adjourned till 12 noon. After that, when the proceedings started, the opposition started creating a ruckus. As a result, the proceedings of the House were adjourned for the day.
During this, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that our national sentiment should resonate from the House. Parliamentary disruption is not a remedy but a disease. It weakens our foundation and makes Parliament irrelevant. We must continue to ensure its relevance.
He said that when we deviate from constructive discussion, we fail to respect the trust of millions of people who look up to us as the guardians of their democratic aspirations.
