Lucknow, 7 December: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has ensured that the smart meter scheme is implemented with complete transparency and security. To remove confusion and unnecessary chaos among consumers, the government has clarified that the OTP (one time password) received during the smart meter verification process is only required for registration and do not pay attention to any kind of rumor about it.
The process is very safe and simple
To get a smart meter installed, consumers receive a 6-digit OTP on their mobile number, which has to be shared with the authorized employee of the electricity department. This process is completely safe and free. During verification, the consumer must see the authorized letter and identity card of the representative who came to his house.
Be cautious
The Yogi government has cautioned consumers not to tell the OTP to any unknown person over the phone. Also, demanding any kind of amount during verification or meter installation is illegal. If this happens, the consumer should immediately lodge a complaint on the helpline number 1912, so that timely action can be taken by the department and you do not fall prey to any fraud.
These are the benefits of one time password and registration process
The process before installing a smart meter i.e. “consumer indexing” is necessary to verify the consumer’s information. In this, documents like mobile number, Aadhar card, PAN card, voter ID or driving license are taken. On completion of the verification process, the consumer gets information about their electricity usage and balance in real-time. Not only this, it is also easy to monitor and control electricity usage. The process has been made more secure by the Yogi government through digital signature.
Energy Minister AK Sharma told that this initiative of the government is a big step towards making electricity services in the state modern and consumer-centric. The aim of the government is not only to provide better services to electricity consumers but also to make the smart meter process completely transparent and safe.
