New Delhi, 12 December: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla described the comment of Trinamool Congress (TMC) member Kalyan Banerjee as unfortunate and urged the members that agree or disagree is in its place but personal comments are not in accordance with the dignity of the House.
At the beginning of the proceedings in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, Speaker Birla informed the House that Kalyan Banerjee has apologized for his comment yesterday and has also given it in writing.
He said that a member in the House should avoid personal, caste and gender-specific comments. There should be positive satire but such comments should not be made on anyone.
It is noteworthy that a controversy had arisen over a statement given by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Women MPs had objected to his comment on Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Women members of BJP had also met Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and complained about Kalyan Banerjee. Due to the uproar over his statement in the Lok Sabha, the proceedings of the House were adjourned twice and then for the third time for the day.
