Defamation case against Rahul Gandhi postponed in Sultanpur court as judge on leave

Sultanpur, 16 December: Hearing in the defamation case against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi was postponed on Monday in the MP-MLA Special Court of Sultanpur. Hearing could not be held due to the judge being on leave. The next hearing will now be held on January 2.

BJP leader Vijay Mishra, a resident of Hanumanganj in the district, had filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in the court in the year 2018. Mishra had alleged that Rahul Gandhi had made indecent remarks during the Karnataka elections. I am hurt by this. A five-year long process went on in the court, when Rahul Gandhi did not appear, the then judge issued a warrant and summoned him in December 2023. Then in February 2024, Rahul Gandhi surrendered in the court. The magistrate granted him bail on two sureties of Rs 25,000 each. After this, Rahul Gandhi was called by the court to record his statement. After a dozen dates, Rahul reached the court on July 26 and recorded his statement.

Gandhi said that he was innocent and that a political conspiracy was being hatched against him. After this, the hearing kept getting postponed in the court due to various reasons. After this, the date of December 16 was fixed for the hearing.
