Moradabad, 19 December: The First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against Samajwadi Party MP Zia ur Rahman Barq from Sambhal Lok Sabha constituency of Uttar Pradesh on charges of tampering with electricity meter and electricity theft.
An FIR has also been lodged against MP Barq’s father Mamluk Ur Rehman on charges of threatening the electricity department team. This action has been taken on the complaint of Vinod Kumar Gupta, Superintending Engineer of Electricity Department.
Superintending Engineer Gupta told reporters on Thursday that a team of the electricity department reached SP MP Bark’s residence in the afternoon with police force and Rapid Action Force. When the team checked the load of the house and the electrical appliances installed in the house, many irregularities were found in it. The meter reading of the MP’s residence, the load of AC, fans and other electrical appliances were also checked. The load of the electricity meter was more than the prescribed load. This is a clear case of electricity theft. In the preliminary investigation, a fault was found in the meter unit.
Gupta said that the old meter has been removed from MP Barq’s residence and sealed. It will be sent to the lab for testing. If any fault is found in the investigation, action will be taken as per the rules. The engineer said that after sealing the old meter, a smart meter has been installed.
