Excavation work continues for the 7th day in the ancient stepwell in Sambhal, garbage, soil removed from corridors

Moradabad, 27 December: Excavation and soil removal work continued for the seventh day on Friday under the direction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) from the corridors of the first floor of the ancient stepwell found in the Muslim-dominated locality Laxmanganj in Chandausi of Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh.

Although, excavation work was stopped in the afternoon. Earlier, till Thursday evening, the work of removing soil from the corridors of the first floor of the stepwell was done.

Today at 10 am, the ASI team also reached the stepwell site. Along with them, Nagar Palika Parishad’s sanitary inspector Priyanka Singh and 40 to 50 laborers also reached the spot. The laborers started clearing the soil from the corridors of the stepwell and filling it in the tractor-trolley.

From morning to afternoon, the entire floor of the corridor on one side of the first floor has been cleaned. At the same time, the well of the stepwell is said to be in front of the stairs going down to the stepwell. The digging was stopped after collecting the soil there on Friday afternoon.

Municipal Executive Officer Krishna Kumar Sonkar told that digging will resume only after the first floor is completely cleaned and the soil from the side of the well is completely removed.
