Juna Akhada Sadhu commits suicide by hanging himself in Haridwar

Haridwar, January 13: A ‘sadhu’ living in a flat in Shanti Bhawan in the Kankhal police station area of โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹Haridwar committed suicide by hanging himself on late Sunday night.

The 70-year-old saint has been identified as Swami Sureshwaranand, who is said to be associated with the Juna Akhada. The police reached the spot, cut the outside gate and brought down the body of the saint and sent it to the district hospital for autopsy after filling the panchnama.

Kankhal SHO Manoj Nautiyal said that the police had received information that a saint has committed suicide by hanging himself in the Shanti Bhawan flat located near Bengali turn, and the door is locked from inside. The police reached the spot with the fire service and FSL team. When the door was cut and looked, the body of a saint was found hanging from a noose. With the help of the team, the police brought down the body from the noose.

He said that prima facie it seems to be a case of suicide. Despite this, the police is also investigating from other angles.

It is said that Sureshwaranand (70), a resident of Sheikhpura in Kankhal, had opted ‘sanyas’ one and a half years ago. He had taken a flat in Shanti Bhavan Apartments at Bengali Mor, where he lived alone. Police is investigating the matter.
