Mahakumbh Nagar, January 29: Thirty devotees died in the stampede at Sangam Nose on the occasion of ‘Mauni Amavasya Snan’ in Prayagraj Maha Kumbh, out of which 25 devotees have been identified. More than 60 devotees are injured in the accident. The death toll may increase. Most of the devotees who died are from Karnataka, Gujarat and Assam, informed Mela Adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand and DIG Mela Vaibhav Krishna in presser on Wednesday evening.
Vaibhav Krishna said that this accident happened due to breaking of barricades under the pressure of heavy crowd. 90 devotees were injured in the accident. Out of this, 30 devotees died. 25 of the dead have been identified. Efforts are on to identify the remaining five. 24 injured have been sent home. The treatment of 36 injured is going on in Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital of Prayagraj.
Fair Officer Vijay Kiran Anand said that there was no VVIP or VIP protocol today. There was no entry of any VIP vehicle today.
He said that there will be no VIP protocol on the festival of Amrit Snan in future also.
The Fair Officer said that the injured were taken to the hospital by creating a green corridor. The Fair Administration issued helpline number 1920 for information about the dead and injured.
