Sitapur, 5 February: The MP-MLA court on Wednesday rejected bail plea of Sitapur Congress MP Rakesh Rathore who is in jail on rape charges. Now the MP will have to seek refuge in High Court for bail.

MP-MLA court judge Dinesh Nagar’s court heard arguments given by both the sides on the bail plea of the MP. The lawyers appearing on behalf of the victim opposed granting bail citing the example of Asaram and Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s case.

On the other hand, the government advocate strongly opposed the bail calling it the first and serious case in the country under the section of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

He also said that the accused is in a high position like a Member of Parliament. By granting bail, he can use his influence.

On the other hand, the lawyers appearing on behalf of the accused MP requested to grant bail. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court gave its verdict and rejected the bail plea of the accused MP.

It is worth noting that a woman had filed a case against the MP accusing him of molestation. The police had arrested him a few days ago and sent him to jail.

District Government Advocate (Crime) Prashant Shukla said that a petition was filed in the MP-MLA court on behalf of the MP for regular bail. Since the allegation is of a serious case like molestation, the court rejected the bail petition of the MP.
