Shalimar Bagh MLA Rekha Gupta to take oath as CM Delhi tomorrow

New Delhi, 19 February: The uncertainty regarding the new Chief Minister of Delhi has ended today after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the name of Shalimar Bagh MLA Rekha Gupta for the post of Chief Minister at the party’s Delhi State Headquarters this evening.

Rekha Gupta will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi. She will meet the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi in some time and stake claim to form the government. She will take oath of office and secrecy at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on February 20.

In the meeting of the Legislature Party held in the Delhi State BJP office this evening, New Delhi MLA Pravesh Verma and Rohini MLA Vijendra Gupta proposed the name of Rekha Gupta, which was supported by everyone by voice vote.

Earlier, when the meeting of the Legislature Party started at 7 pm, even then Rekha Gupta, who was elected MLA from Shalimar Bagh, was considered the strongest contender for the post of Chief Minister because in the states where the BJP governments have been formed right now, no woman Chief Minister was made. When Rekha Gupta came for the meeting of the legislative party on Wednesday, she was accepting everyone’s greetings by showing the victory sign in front of the media.

Rekha Gupta comes from the Vaishya community, which is present in considerable numbers in Delhi. The Vaishya community is considered the core voter of the BJP. Rekha Gupta is also the General Secretary of Delhi BJP and National Vice President of BJP Mahila Morcha. 50-year-old Rekha Gupta has also been the Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Talking about Rekha Gupta’s education, she has studied LLB. Rekha Gupta was born in 1974 in Nandgarh village of Julana subdivision of Jind district of Haryana.

She came to Delhi with her father in her childhood. She entered politics from ABVP during her student life. She has been the Secretary of Delhi University Students Union. Rekha Gupta’s father was a manager in the State Bank of India. During this job, her father shifted to Delhi with the family. Rekha Gupta won the Delhi Assembly elections by defeating Aam Aadmi Party candidate Vandana Kumari from Shalimar Bagh Assembly seat. Rekha Gupta got a total of 68200 votes while AAP’s Vandana Kumari came second with 38605 votes. Praveen Kumar Jain of Congress came third with 4892 votes.
