Dehradun, March 2: Seven workers have died so far in the Mana avalanche in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman released the list of the dead on Sunday.
Among the dead are two workers from Himachal Pradesh, four from Uttar Pradesh and one from Uttarakhand. Arvind Kumar Singh, a resident of Clement Town, Dehradun, is still missing in this accident, who is being searched.
The army and other teams continued the search and rescue operation on Sunday. Due to clear weather, the rescue operation went on at a very fast pace on Sunday. During the search and rescue, the bodies of three more workers were recovered today. The total number of people killed in this accident has gone up to seven.
According to the list of those killed in the avalanche released by Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, Mohinder Pal and Himesh Chand from Himachal Pradesh, Jitendra Singh, Manjit Singh, Alok Yadav and Ashok Paswan from Uttar Pradesh and Anil Kumar, a laborer from Uttarakhand. Arvind Kumar Singh of Uttarakhand is still missing after being hit by the avalanche. The rescue team is engaged in his search. Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Suman said that along with the army, NDRF and SDRF teams are also continuously engaged in the search operation for the missing.
It is worth mentioning that 54 workers were hit by the avalanche near Mana. Out of which 46 workers have been rescued and are being treated, while seven bodies have been recovered. These bodies will be handed over to the respective families for last rites after post-mortem. One laborer is reported to be still missing.
