Country will be Naxal-free before 31 March next year: Amit Shah

New Delhi, March 20: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has said that the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is moving forward with a ruthless approach against Naxalites. He claimed that the country is going to be Naxal-free before 31 March next year.

After 22 Naxalites were killed in two separate operations in Chhattisgarh on Thursday, in a post shared on the social media platform X, Amit Shah said that today our soldiers have achieved another major success in the direction of Naxal-free India campaign. 22 Naxalites were killed in two separate operations of security forces in Bijapur and Kanker of Chhattisgarh. The Modi government is moving forward with a ruthless approach against Naxalites and is adopting a zero tolerance policy against those Naxalites who are not surrendering despite all the facilities from surrender to inclusion. The country is going to be Naxal-free before 31 March next year.

In a statement issued by the Home Ministry, it has been said that due to the zero tolerance policy against Naxalism under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, till now in the year 2025, 90 Naxalites have been killed, 104 Naxalites have been arrested and 164 have surrendered. In the year 2024, 290 Naxalites were neutralized, 1090 were arrested and 881 surrendered. So far a total of 15 top Naxalite leaders have been neutralized.

The statement said that between the years 2004 and 2014, there were a total of 16,463 incidents of Naxalite violence, whereas during the tenure of the Modi government between 2014 and 2024, the number of incidents of Naxalite violence has come down by 53 percent to 7,744. Similarly, the number of deaths of security force personnel has decreased by 73 percent from 1851 to 509 and the number of civilian deaths has decreased by 70 percent from 4766 to 1495.

The ministry has said that till the year 2014, there were a total of 66 fortified police stations, whereas in the last 10 years of the Modi government, their number has increased to 612. Similarly, in 2014, 126 districts in the country were Naxal-affected, but in 2024 the number of districts has decreased to only 12. In the last 5 years, a total of 302 new security camps and 68 night landing helipads have been built.
