Hindi compulsory as 3rd language from class 1 to 5 in Maharashtra

Mumbai, April 17: The Maharashtra government has made Hindi language compulsory from class 1 to class 5 in all the schools of the state from the session 2025-26.

This announcement has been made by the School Education Department of Maharashtra under the new educational framework under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

According to sources, two languages ​​were taught in the schools of Maharashtra till now, but under the new policy, students will be taught according to the three-language formula.

According to the new curriculum, now studies will be done in Maharashtra under 5+3+3+4. According to the Education Department, school education has been divided into four stages. The first five years (3 years pre-primary and class 1 and 2) will be the foundational stage.

After this, classes 3 to 5 will be considered as the primary level. Classes 6 to 8 will be counted under middle school. The last and final four years (9th to 12th) will be counted in secondary education. This type of system will also be started from the academic year 2025-26.
