Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Bharat Muni’s Natya Shastra enter UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register

New Delhi, April 18: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) on Friday included Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Bharat Muni’s Natya Shastra in its Memory of the World Register. With this, now 14 records of the country have been included in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.

It is noteworthy that UNESCO on Friday added 74 new documentary heritage collections to its Memory of the World Register, taking the total number of inscribed collections to 570. The entries from 72 countries and 4 international organizations include topics such as scientific revolution, contribution of women in history and major milestones of multilateralism.

Expressing happiness over this achievement, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat called it a historic moment for India’s civilizational heritage.

He informed on X that the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and Bharat Muni’s Natya Shastra have now been inscribed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register. This global honour highlights India’s eternal wisdom and artistic brilliance. He said that these timeless works are more than literary treasures. They are the philosophical and aesthetic foundations that have shaped India’s world view and the way we think, feel, live and express ourselves. With this, now 14 records of our country have been included in this international register.
