Kerala has at least 1,793 people under surveillance and 70 suspected patients in hospitals
New Delhi, Feb 02: Three days after, India’s first coronavirus (CoV) case in Thrissur, Kerala, a second case has surfaced in the state on Sunday.
The Health Ministry said in a statement that the patient is a student in Wuhan, who returned to India on January 24 and was kept in a separate ward for surveillance.
However, at least 1,793 people are under surveillance throughout Kerala and 70 suspected patients have been admitted to isolation wards in hospitals.
Addressing a press conference, Kerala Health & Social Welfare Minister KK Shailaja said, โWe are very cautious till the incubation period passes. The best treatment is to stay completely apart and relax a lot. At the moment we did not get the medical report from National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune but they have indicated that there is a patient at Alappuzha Medical College here. It is feared that the patient may be positive. So, we are waiting for the investigation report. “
Shailaja requested those people not to leave without completing the 28-day period of incubation of the virus.
So far, 304 people have died of corono virus in China, while 14,380 patients have confirmed the disease. The Philippines reported the first death outside China on Sunday, according to media reports.
Meanwhile, the second flight of Air India, which went to Wuhan, the sub-center of the corono virus, was back to Delhi on Sunday morning carrying 323 Indians and 7 Maldives citizens.
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan held a review meeting on Saturday evening regarding corona virus. He is constantly getting information about all the people coming from China to India and taking stock of the arrangements to make them stay.
After the review meeting on corona virus in the Union Health Ministry, Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that till Saturday evening, thermal screening of 52,332 passengers who arrived in India by 326 different aircraft at various airports across the country had been done.
