In his speeches, Yogi Adityanath used to talk about making Basti Vashishtnagar often before becoming Chief Minister.

Scholars believe that in Treta Yuga, this place was the spiritual field of Maharishi Vasistha. King Dasharatha, the father of Maryada Purushottam Lord Rama, performed the Putreshthi Yajna on the advice of Maharishi Vashistha through Shringi Rishi in this area.

On the instructions of the Chief Minister, a proposal was made to change the name of Basti district for the first time two and a half months ago and sent to the Revenue Board. After this, information was sought from the revenue council in the event of change of name.

After conducting the cost estimation, the District Magistrate gave the report to the Commissioner and with the revised proposal, Commissioner  Anil Kumar Sagar has sent it to the Revenue Board.

The proposal to change the name of Basti district to Vashishtnagar or Vashishthi is in the final stages of churn at the government level.

The people’s representatives of the district have also demanded that the township be named Vashisht Nagar. Haraiya MLA Ajay Singh has written a letter to the Chief Minister two years ago and demanded the name of the township to be Vashistha Nagar. They say that Harraiya tehsil is a very large area known as Chhoti Ayodhya. The present government is constantly trying for its development. It is expected that twenty-four lakh people of the district will soon get its good news.
