Patiala House Court issued notice to Tihar Jail Administration

New Delhi, February 29: Two Nirbhaya’s  gang rape and murder convicts have filed a petition in Delhi’s Patiala House Court seeking a stay on the March 3 death warrant.

However, hearing the petition, the court has issued notice to the Tihar Jail Administration and directed to file the reply by March 3.

A petition filed by Nirbhaya case convicts Akshay Singh and Pawan Gupta said that a new mercy petition has been filed with the President. During the hearing of the petition, Akshay Singh’s lawyer AP Singh said that his earlier mercy petition did not contain all the facts.

And at the same , Pawan Gupta has said in his petition that his curative petition is pending in the Supreme Court, so the death warrant issued for March 3 should be stayed.

Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana of the Patiala House Court issued a new death warrant against the convicts of Nirbhaya on February 17 and ordered to be hanged on March 3 at 6 am.

On February 28, Pawan Gupta filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court demanding that the death sentence be commuted to life imprisonment. The Supreme Court will hear Pawan’s petition on 2 March.
