Lucknow, April 26: With the gradual start of development projects amid lockdown, work has started gaining momentum in the state. Due to commencement of construction works in various departments including expressway projects, commissioning of industrial units, work is going on in the state for projects worth Rs 35461 crore due to which lakhs of labourers sitting unemployed at home have got work in the meantime.
1.30 lakh workers employed in industrial units
Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Kumar Awasthi said on Sunday that construction work has been started in the state for the reason that there is no inconvenience to the workers due to the enforcement lockdown. Excluding the containment zones of the state, work is currently underway in 7207 industrial units. About 1.30 lakh workers are employed in these units.
Work on three expressway projects of UPEIDA continues
He said that 4975 workers are involved in on Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) Rs 11,200 crore Purvanchal Expressway project, 4481 workers in 8950 crore Bandelkhand Expressway project and 488 workers are working in Gorakhpur Link Expressway project worth Rs 3,000 crore.
73 projects worth 140 crores started in irrigation department
Similarly, 73 projects at a cost of Rs 140 crore have been started by the Irrigation Department, in which about 985 workers are employed. Under minor irrigation, 84 dam related works and 96 ponds related works and 44 pipe water schemes and 8 STPs have been kicked off.
183 works worth Rs. 12,171 crore started in PWD
183 works costing Rs. 12,171 crore have been started by the Public Works Department (PWD), in which 4345 workers are employed. Work of 27 rural drinking water supply projects has been started. There are 62804 people employed in 31,402 common service centers, told Awasthi.
More than five and a half million workers are employed on the brick kilns
Additional Chief Secretary informed that 5, 72,966 workers are involved in on 12,027 brick-kilns functioning in the state. Employment is being provided to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) workers. In projects operated in 24,567 gram panchayats, 6, 25,361 unskilled workers have also got workamid lockdown.
