New Delhi, May 21: The Supreme Court has rejected the petition of sixty nine thousand Shikshamitras of Uttar Pradesh. The bench, headed by Justice UU Lalit, dismissed the petition after hearing through video conferencing.
The UP Primary Shikashamitra Association (UPPSA) challenged the Allahabad High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court.
The petition sought a stay or revocation of the Allahabad High Court verdict.
On May 6, the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court, while giving a decision in the case of recruitment of 69 thousand teachers, had justified the decision of the state government to increase the cutoff marks. The High Court had ordered this recruitment process to be completed within three months.
In fact, in 2019, teacher recruitment examination was conducted in UP. After this examination, the state government had fixed 65 per cent cut-off marks for general category and 60 per cent for reserved category for recruitment. This decision of the government was challenged in the High Court by the Shikshamitras. Shikshamitra had demanded a cut-off of 45 per cent for general category and 40 per cent for reserved category. The High Court upheld the state government’s decision.
In this case, the Uttar Pradesh government had filed a petition in the Supreme Court. UP government had said that on the decision of Allahabad High Court, the Supreme Court should not issue any order without hearing its side.
