New Delhi, June 09: The Supreme Court on Tuesday has stayed the recruitment of 37339 posts of assistant teachers in the case of recruitment of 69 thousand teachers of Uttar Pradesh.
The court has directed the seats on these posts to be kept vacant till further orders. The next hearing on the case will be held on July 14 .
During the hearing, advocate RK Singh, on behalf of Shikshamitras, demanded that 37339 posts be kept vacant.
Although, on May 21, the Supreme Court first refused to interfere in the High Court’s decision. Later, notice was issued to the UP government.
The Supreme Court had asked the state government why it changed the decision to cut the cut-off marks to 45 percent for the general category and 40 percent for the reserved category.
The Supreme Court had said that a detailed hearing is needed on this issue.
However, the UP Prathamik Shiksha Mitra Association has challenged the Allahabad High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court.
The petition sought a stay or revocation of the Allahabad High Court verdict.
On May 6, the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court, while giving a decision in the case of recruitment of 69 thousand teachers, had justified the decision of the state government to increase the cut-off.
The High Court had ordered this recruitment process to be completed within three months.
In fact, in 2019, teacher recruitment examination was conducted in UP. After this examination, the state government had fixed 65 per cent cut off marks for general category and 60 per cent for reserved category for recruitment.
This decision of the government was challenged in the High Court by the Shiksha Mitras.
Though, shiksha mitra had demanded a cut-off of 45 per cent for general category and 40 per cent for reserved category.
The High Court upheld the state government’s decision.
