ย New Delhi, June 13: India outright refused the constitutional amendment on the new map of the country passed today by the House of Representatives, the lower house of Nepal’s parliament, quoting that a country’s borders cannot be artificially extended.
India believes that Nepal’s border claim is neither based on historical facts and evidence nor is it going to last any level.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anurag Shrivastava reacted to today’s developments in Nepal’s Parliament, saying that India has already commented on it earlier. The passage of the map bill is a violation of the agreed agreement between the two countries that outstanding border related issues will be resolved through negotiations.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that it has considered the developments related to the depiction of the Indian Territory in Nepal’s map.
It is noteworthy that the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Parliament of Nepal, unanimously passed the Constitution Amendment Bill on that political map laying claim over some Indian territories, including Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura as part of Nepal. The Bill will now be introduced in the National Assembly, the upper house of Parliament.
