New Delhi, August 19: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), while hearing a petition asking the ICSE Board to issue guidelines to re-evaluate or promote failed students of Class IX and XI this year.
The bench, headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar, issued the notice after hearing through video conferencing.
The petition said that the ICSE Board should also issue guidelines for these students, just like CBSE.
The petition has been filed by lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava on behalf of a minor student studying in XI.
The petition said that the ICSE board did not follow the May 13 guidelines of the CBSE board, causing many students studying in Class IX and XI to be harmed.
The petition said that this decision of the ICSE Board is a violation of Article 14 of the Constitution.
The petition said that the ICSE board has taken too long to adopt the May 13 guidelines of the CBSE board, so students of Class IX and XI should be promoted this year.
The petition states that all parties will have to make coordinated efforts to relieve the students from stress.
In fact, on June 26, the Supreme Court had accepted the new notification of CBSE and said that ICSE should issue a similar notification.
The top court of the country had given permission to decide the method of ICSE marking itself.
