New Delhi, September 24: During the protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), questions have been continuously raised on the chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police regarding the riots in February this year. In such a situation, Delhi Police has also named Congress leader Salman Khurshid in its latest chargesheet filed in this case.
According to the Delhi Police, Khurshid’s name is mentioned in the chargesheet for making ‘inflammatory speeches’.
After this, the Congress has questioned the role and investigation of Delhi Police.
Congress leaders asked what kind of investigation is this where anyone is made to be accused by saying that of an accused.
Congress General Secretary Mukul Wasnik termed it a lewd joke when Salman Khurshid’s name was included in the police charge sheet.
He said that the name of Salman Khurshid in the new chargesheet filed by the police in Delhi riots is astonishing. “Nationalist” people with provocative speeches were seen by the entire nation shouting slogans like “Goli Maaro Saalo Ko”.
Taking a dig at the BJP in gestures, he said that those in power should remember that ‘truth will triumph’.
At the same time, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that Salman Khurshid, who had previously held the post of Foreign Minister and Law Minister, is one of the best, gentleman, scholar, nationalist, secular Indians I have known so far. In such a case, writing his name in charge sheet by the Delhi Police is staggering.
He alleged that all this was being done to please his masters.
In fact, the Delhi Police has recorded the name of Salman Khurshid in the latest 17,000-page chargesheet filed on September 17 to give ‘inflammatory speech’ in the riots case.
The police charge sheet contains the statement of a witness which said that Omar Khalid, Salman Khurshid, Nadeem Khan gave inflammatory speeches to elicit those opposing CAA-NRC.
Earlier, the Delhi Police had named CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, eminent educationists Jayati Ghosh, Apoorvanand and Yogendra Yadav in their initial chargesheet even when the opposition raised questions.
However, a delegation of opposition leaders had also met President Ram Nath Kovind on the same issue and demanded an intervention in the matter and a fair inquiry.
