New Delhi, 04 January: The seventh round of talks between the government and the Farmers Unions to end the ongoing agitation in the country against the three Agricultural Laws also failed to succeed, as the farmer leaders remained adamant on the demand for withdrawal of three new agricultural laws.
The government was insisting on discussing the objections of the farmers associations on the new agricultural laws and the minimum support price (MSP), while the peasant leaders were first demanding a decision on the withdrawal of the laws.
After the meeting, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, “In the last meeting held on December 30, 2020, there was a discussion that keeping in mind the problems of the farmers, the government was ready to make every effort to resolve their issues.
โAt the same time, the government is making every effort to resolve the issue by discussing it openly with the farmerโs representatives. There is a need to step forward from both sides. The government is ready to consider keeping in mind all positive options,โ Tomar said.
Tomar further said in his statement that keeping in mind the interests of farmers, the issue related to agricultural reform laws will also be discussed with representatives of farmers’ organizations of other states.
The Agriculture Minister also said that we will discuss these three laws point-by-point and the government is ready to make necessary amendments as and when necessary, considering the points on which the farmers will object.
The Union Minister said that in today’s meeting it was decided by mutual agreement between the government and farmer leaders that the discussion would continue further.
He said that the next meeting would be held on January 8 at two in the afternoon.
A positive aspect of the talks held at Vigyan Bhavan on Monday was that the two sides agreed to hold talks on January 8.
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said after the meeting that we wanted the farmers unions to discuss three laws. We could not reach any solution, because the farmers unions remained adamant on repealing the laws.
He said that the atmosphere of discussion was good, but due to the farmers leaders being adamant on the return of agricultural laws, there was no way out. The farmers have confidence in the government, so the next meeting has been decided.
Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said that the withdrawal of the three agricultural laws and the MSP will be discussed again on January 8. He said that we have made it clear to the government that if there is no return of law, there will be no return home.
