Google has dedicated its today’s Doodle to the eighth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
France and South Korea lock horns; Official mascot of the tournament is Ettie, the French poussin
New Delhi, June 07 : Taking up the task to responsibly and evidently promote the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 across all its platforms, the much sought-after search engine giant Google has dedicated its today’s Doodle to the eighth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The official mascot of the tournament is Ettie, the French poussin.
The quadrennial international football championship contested by the women’s national teams of the member associations of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association kicks off today and will conclude a month later on July 7. The mega tournament begins in France with a match between France and South Korea today.
The doodle has an illustration of the diverse female footballers accompanied “Google” written in bold green letters. The doodle on FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 appears on the search giant’s homepage today. When users click on the doodle, Google redirects them to a fresh page with the match schedule of the eventful 30 days.
It may be recalled that in March 2015, France won the right to host the event, the first time the country is hosting the tournament, and the third time a European nation is. Matches have been planned for nine cities across France. The United States enters the competition as defending champions. It’s also the first Women’s World Cup to use the video assistant referee (VAR) system.
A total of 24 teams qualified for the final tournament which includes Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa, Canada, Jamaica, United States, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, New Zealand, England, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Spain and Sweden.
