Lucknow, 18 January: The work of delimitation has been completed in 75 districts for the three-tier panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh.
In the last five years, the scope of the state’s panchayats has narrowed considerably. 69 wards of district panchayats have been abolished. 880 gram panchayats have been found in urban areas. The number of members of the area panchayats has also decreased.
The state government has released the list of Gram Panchayat, Kshetra Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat wards after delimitation.
Additional Chief Secretary of Panchayati Raj Department Manoj Kumar Singh told on Monday that after delimitation, 69 wards in 75 district panchayats have been finished. Their number which was earlier 3120 has come down to 3051 now.
โHowever, there was no change in the number of Zila Panchayat members in 36 districts of the state. Gonda, Moradabad and Sambhal are also three such districts where more members will be elected than in the year 2015. In this, 65 members will be elected instead of 51 in Gonda, 39 instead of 34 in Moradabad and 35 Zilla Panchayat members instead of 27 in Sambhal,โ
Similarly, due to union of 880 gram panchayats in urban areas of the state, instead of 59,074, 58,194 gram panchayats will have village head elections. The number of wards in gram panchayats has also reduced by 12,745. In comparison to the year 2015, this time the Gram Panchayat wards have also come down from 7, 44,558 to 7, 31,813.
Apart from this, 75,805 Kshetra Panchayat members will be elected this time for the election of block chiefs in 826 Kshetra Panchayats, which will be 1,996 less than in the year 2015. In the year 2015, the number of Kshetra Panchayat members was 77,801, which has now reduced to 75,805.
