New Delhi, 14 June:Â In retaliation to termination of generalized system of preference(GPS)status of India by US President Trump, India will impose tariffs on 29 US products valuing around $235 million.Â
Giving reason of national security, Trump also imposed 25 percent tariff on US steel products and 10 percent tariff on US aluminium products.
These 29 products supplied to US include almonds, apples, walnuts, chickpeas and stainless steel products. 10 percent tariff on aluminium and 25 percent on steel products are also under consideration. These will be effective by 16th June.
It is noteworthy that India has many a time postponed imposing tariffs after 20 June 2018.
