New Delhi, 13 May: So far, 34 judicial officers and three judges of the High Court across the country have succumbed to coronavirus disease; this information was shared by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana on the occasion of launching a mobile app for journalists.
The CJI said that according to the data available so far, 2,768 judicial officers and 106 judges of various High Courts got infected with the corona. The data of the two main high courts have not yet been included in these figures.
The Chief Justice said that eight hundred registry staff of various courts have become corona positive. These include six Supreme Court registrars and ten additional registrars. Three Supreme Court officials have died of corona infection.
Justice Vandana Kasrekar of Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justice Raghumal Udhwani of Gujarat High Court and Justice Vinod Kumar Srivastava of Allahabad High Court have died from Corona.
โJustices Kasrekar and Justice Udhwani died in December 2020 while Justice Srivastava died on April 28. Two Delhi-based judicial officers, Metropolitan Magistrate Kamran Khan and Kovai Venugopal, died last month, while NGT registrar Ashu Garg died on 7 May,โ told CJI Ramana.
