New Delhi, 19 May: Singapore has said that it is satisfied with India’s Foreign Ministry’s clarification regarding the controversial statement made by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the two countries will continue to work together to combat the Corona pandemic.
Singapore High Commissioner in New Delhi, Simone Wang, reacted to today’s developments, saying that his country is satisfied with the statement of the Foreign Minister that the Chief Minister of Delhi does not represent the thinking and thinking of India and his statement is irresponsible.
It is worth mentioning that on Tuesday, Kejriwal made a controversial statement that the new variant of Covid-19 in Singapore is dangerous for children.
He also suggested stopping flights from Singapore. His statement triggered a sharp response in Singapore and was summoned to the Indian High Commissioner Ministry of External Affairs there.
In relation to the entire controversy, Singapore High Commissioner Simone Wang told the media on Thursday that there is a law against spreading misleading and false information in connection with the Corona epidemic in Singapore. Their country can use this law. He also said that he was satisfied with the Foreign Ministry’s clarification.
The Singapore diplomat said that Kejriwal’s statement would not affect the India-Singapore relationship. The two countries stand together to fight the Corona epidemic. He mentioned that the work of supplying medical supplies from Singapore to India is going on continuously.
Earlier in Singapore, the Ministry of External Affairs came into action rapidly after a sharp response to the statement of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said that the Singapore government summoned our High Commissioner today (Wednesday) to express strong objection to the Delhi Chief Minister’s tweet on “Singapore variants”. The High Commissioner made it clear that the Chief Minister of Delhi does not have the authority to say on Covid variants or civil aviation policy.
After the statement of the Ministry of External Affairs, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the tweet Kejriwal’s statement was irresponsible.
He said that Kejriwal should know better about the subject. His irresponsible remarks could damage the long-standing India-Singapore partnership.
Jaishankar further said that Singapore and India are playing strong partners in the fight against Covid-19. India appreciates Singapore’s role as a logistics hub and oxygen supplier. Deploying military aircraft to help India reflects our improved relationship.
