New Delhi, 25 May: Social media giant Facebook has clarified that it is working on the operational process with the aim to comply with the new Information Technology (IT) Rules in collaboration with the government. These new IT rules are going to come into force from tomorrow.
Facebook also operates WhatsApp and Instagram. On Tuesday, its spokesperson said that we aim to follow the provisions of the IT rules and still continue to discuss some issues that require coordination with the government. As per IT regulations, we are working to implement operational processes and improve efficiency.
The spokesman said that Facebook is committed to providing a platform for people to express themselves in an independent and safe manner. However, the company did not provide additional information.
Social media companies have been given a deadline of May 25 to follow the new guidelines for digital platforms. Failure to follow the rules will cause social media companies to lose their intermediary role. Because of this, they were exempted from accountability for any third party information and data hosted on their behalf.
It is noteworthy that the government announced new IT rules in February. Under this, large social media platforms have to be appointed as Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Contact Person and Resident Grievance Redressal Officer. Apart from this, many provisions have been made.
