New Delhi, 31st August: Indian Ambassador to the Gulf Qatar Deepak Mittal met the head of the Taliban’s political office, Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, on Tuesday.
The meeting took place at the Indian Embassy in Doha at the request of the Taliban. India has warned the Taliban, who are in power in Afghanistan, that they should not allow their country to be used in any way for anti-India activities and terrorism.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has also confirmed the first formal talks between India’s Ambassador Deepak Mittal and Taliban leader Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai.
During the talks, mainly the discussion on the speedy safe return of Indian nationals stranded in Afghanistan was discussed. Along with this, talks were also held about Afghan citizens wanting to come to India, especially people from the minority community.
Indian Ambassador Deepak Mittal put the topic of anti-India activities and terrorism on the soil of Afghanistan in front of the Taliban leader. He conveyed India’s concerns in this regard to the Taliban official.
However, the Taliban official has assured the Indian ambassador that all these issues will be resolved positively.
It is noteworthy that in Doha, Indian diplomats including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had frequent contacts and talks with Qatari leaders on the developments in Afghanistan. During this, there were also reports that talks were held between the two sides through the mediation of Qatar.
In this regard, it was only said from the Ministry of External Affairs that India has contacted all the parties there regarding the developments in Afghanistan.
