New Delhi, 28 September: The Supreme Court has directed the Central Government to issue guidelines for providing reservation in promotion to differently abled people within four months. A bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao passed the order.
In fact, the Central Government had filed a petition seeking clarification on the decision given in the case of Siddharaju vs Karnataka in this matter.
The court said that there is no confusion in that decision. The court said that under Section 34 of the Right of Persons with Disability Act, guidelines should be issued to give reservation in promotion to disabled people.
During the hearing, advocate Rajan Mani said that it has been five years since the law came into force but no guidelines have been issued for providing reservation to the differently-abled as per section 34.
On this, the court asked ASG Madhavi Divan whether the government has issued any guidelines for giving reservation in promotion to the differently-abled. Then Divan said no. After that the court ordered the Central Government to issue guidelines within four months.
