New Delhi, 30 September: According to the study done by National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, only 24 beds are available per one lakh population in district hospitals of the country. Bihar lags behind in this case, where only six beds are available whereas Puducherry has the highest number of 222 beds per lakh population.
NITI Aayog’s study related to ‘Best Practices in Performance of Distic Hospitals’ was released on Thursday.
According to the study, according to the Indian Public Health Standard-2012 guidelines, 22 beds per lakh population have been recommended in district hospitals. These instructions have been prepared according to the population present in the districts as per 2001.
The study is based on the status of 707 hospitals in 36 states and union territories during 2018-19.
According to the study, one to 408 beds are available per lakh population at the district level. At least 22 beds are available per lakh population in 217 districts.
It is noteworthy that during the peak season of coronavirus pandemic in the country, it has been seen that the health facilities available at the district level are not sufficient for the public health crisis.
The report was released today in the presence of Dr BK Pal, Member, NITI Aayog, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant and a representative of the World Health Organization.
