Ahmedabad, 6 October: Actor Arvind Trivedi, who played the famous role of Ravana in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana serial, has passed away.
Arvind Trivedi acted in several plays and serials including Hindi-Gujarati films. His death has caused a deep loss to the Gujarati film industry. He had the respect of Bhishma Pitamah in Gujarati films. He was 82 years old.
Arvind Trivedi, a native of Idar’s Kukdia village and former MP, was born in a Gujarati family in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Arvind Trivedi was born on November 8, 1938 in Indore to Jethalal Trivedi. He studied up to intermediate level at Bhavans College, Bombay (now Mumbai). He married Nalini on June 4, 1966. He has three daughters. His brother Upendra Trivedi was a superstar of Gujarati films. Arvind Trivedi’s acting journey started with Gujarati plays.
Arvind Trivedi, who was an ardent devotee of Lord Ram, had installed the idol of Ram in Morari Bapu’s house. He became famous all over the country after playing the role of Ravana in ‘Ramayana’.
In an interview, Arvind Trivedi had said that when he was playing the role of Ravana in the serial, he used to worship Ram while going for shooting.
Arvind Trivedi has acted in about 300 films. He got a different identity through religious and social Gujarati films.
Arvind Trivedi has given many successful Gujarati films like ‘Santurangi’, ‘Hotel Padmini’, ‘Kunwar Bainu Mameru’, ‘Jaisal-Toral’ and ‘Desh Re Zoya Dada Pardesh Zoya’. Arvind Trivedi has also worked in Hindi films like ‘Paraya Dhan’, ‘Aaj Ki Taza Khabar’.
Many organizations of the country and the world have honoured him with awards on behalf of the Gujarat government. He has also played lead roles in many films. Arvind, who was successful in Gujarati and Hindi films, was associated with many social organizations and in his personal life; he had a lot of love and respect from the people.
In 2002, he was named the acting chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Arvind Trivedi served as the head of CBFC from 20 July 2002 to 16 October 2003.
In 1991 Arvind Trivedi was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) from Sabarkantha constituency as a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and remained MP till 1996.
