Lucknow, October 08: Children working in hotels, factories, shops and homes are now educated in UP and are joining the mainstream of the society. Vocational training is making a difference in their lives. Many children doing child labour in panchayats and urban wards are becoming the support of their families by studying and writing.
A spokesperson of the state government said on Friday that the ‘Nai Savera Yojana’ of the Uttar Pradesh government has helped in improving the lives of children who are forced to work for a day’s livelihood. Now these children have smiles on their faces and confidence is also awakened in them.
The spokesman said that the government’s initiative to improve the lives of working children and shape their future has proved to be effective. In four and a half years, 26,933 children of the state have been included in the main stream of education through Naya Savera Yojana. The UNICEF organization has also cooperated in the government’s plan.
โThey identified 39,576 working children in 1197 gram panchayats and urban wards in 20 districts of the state. These identified working adolescent girls were linked to vocational training programs. Efforts were started to improve their standard of living. Along with this, 7561 families of these working children also got the benefit of social security scheme,โ he informed.
He told that along with improving the lives of child labourers, the government also launched schemes to settle bonded labour. In the financial year 2020-21, Rs 265.17 lakh was spent under the new bonded labour scheme.
It is noteworthy that in the year 2017-18, 3065 and in 2018-19, 1210 bonded labourers were identified. Along with settling them, alimony was arranged, while in 2019-20 New Bonded Labour Scheme 595 bonded labourers were settled.
