Raebareli, October 10: Shadow of coal crisis on National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited is getting deeper now. One of the units already operating at half the load has had to be shut down. Prior to this, the sixth unit of 500 MW has already been closed due to coal crisis.
It is noteworthy that the coal crisis in the country is very serious at present, which is affecting the thermal power stations. NTPC’s power plant at Unchahar in Rae Bareli had a major impact and within a week, power generation in two units had to be shut down. Unit 2 of 210 MW was shut down due to non-availability of coal supply late on Saturday night. However, the official is not ready to say anything in this regard.
Unit 6 has been closed a few days back. For the smooth running of all the six units of NTPC’s Unchahar unit, a demand of 30 thousand metric tonnes of coal has been made per day, whereas only 10 thousand metric tonnes of coal is being available at present. Due to which the power generation capacity of these units has been seriously affected. Now instead of 1550 MW in this power plant, only 750 MW is being produced.
The effect of making electricity less than its own weight is being seen in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Delhi, for which direct power was being supplied from here. It has also affected in the industrial sector and many factories are forced to produce half.
According to NTPC Public Relations Officer (PRO) Komal Sharma, two units have been closed. The power generation will be increased on demand from the northern grid.
