Lucknow, October 14: Considering the potential of boosting agricultural exports from Uttar Pradesh, APEDA Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India worked uninterruptedly. As a result of this, bananas were exported abroad for the first time on October 14 from Uttar Pradesh.
The consignment of bananas was flagged off to Iran by M/s- Desai Agro Foods Pvt Ltd, which will be sent by sea.
The flag hoisting ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture and Marketing, Government of Uttar Pradesh in the presence of Director APEDA, other senior officers of APEDA, senior officers of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Director Desai Agrifoods Pvt Ltd. Farmers from Lakhimpur, Bareilly and Lucknow also actively participated in the celebrations to be a part of this historic moment.
The product was procured directly from the farmers of Palia Kalan (Lakhimpur), brought to Lucknow and packed at Mango Pack-house in Lucknow. A total of 40 MT of bananas in two referrer containers of 40 feet each were sent to the Iranian market on a trial basis.
This will be the first time that the international market will taste the sweetness of bananas grown in Uttar Pradesh.
A total of 3078.73 thousand metric tonnes are produced in Uttar Pradesh. Various regions of Uttar Pradesh like Lakhimpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Allahabad, Kaushambi etc. have huge potential to grow exportable bananas for international market.
Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Marketing, Government of Uttar Pradesh appreciated the efforts of APEDA for working towards making Uttar Pradesh a hub for agricultural exports and also requested to organize training programs for farmers mutually with the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
During the address, he highlighted the agriculture export policy developed by the government. Farmers and traders of UP will get benefit from it.
