Kanpur, October 20: Autologous bone marrow transplant through regenerative medicine has been done for the first time at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital (Hallett Hospital), affiliated to Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College.
Here the successful transplant of the five-year-old patient took place under the supervision of Dr VS Rajput, a specialist in Mumbai.
Not only this, Dr Rajput will give his services free of cost on the third Tuesday of every month at Hospital in Kanpur.
Autologous bone marrow transplant through regenerative medicine has started in Hallett hospital. The doctors of the hospital have tried to provide relief by doing a bone marrow transplant in a child suffering from cerebral palsy. Through regenerative medicine, the Medical College Administration has started the exercise of providing relief from incurable diseases behind Bone Marrow Transplant and Stem Cells.
Dr BM Rajput, a specialist doctor from Mumbai and visiting faculty of GSVM, examined about half a dozen patients suffering from incurable diseases in the surgery department of the hospital.
During this, he identified a five-year-old child, who was unable to move and drink due to cerebral palsy, to give relief through bone marrow therapy.
In the presence of Principal Professor Dr Sanjay Kala and Head of Surgery Department Professor GD Yadav, Dr BM Rajput and Head of Department of Anesthesia, Associate Professor Dr Chandrashekhar completed the first phase of Bone Marrow Transplant of special procedure from the hip bone of the child.
According to Dr Ganesh Shankar, media in-charge of the Medical College, Dr. Rajput will sit on the third Tuesday of every month to give relief to the patients from incurable diseases in the hall under regenerative medicine.
What is Bone Marrow Transplantation
Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) or stem cell transplant is a procedure in which a diseased or damaged bone marrow is replaced by a healthy blood-producing bone marrow.
It is needed when your bone marrow stops working properly and does not produce enough healthy blood cells. Bone marrow transplant is done in two ways, one who is to be transplanted bone marrow transplant them by taking blood cells from his own body and secondly transplanting them by taking blood cells from someone else’s body.
The first type is called autologous transplant and the second type is called allogeneic transplant. The first type of transplant has been done at Hallett Hospital, Kanpur.
