New Delhi, 30 October: The United States (US) soldiers have learned battle skill in ‘extreme cold weather conditions’ from the Indian Army, who has had the experience of driving Pakistani infiltrators from 18 thousand feet high snow peaks in Kargil.
Indian bravehearts taught American soldiers how to fight a war during 14 days of harsh winter on the snowy peaks of Alaska in the world’s highest and coldest Arctic region.
Indian and US Army troops conducted final drills on two high peaks of Alaska on the last four days of ‘Yudh Abhyas’. American soldiers taking training from the Indian Army focused on Arctic warfare.
During the verification exercise in the 17th edition of the Indo-US joint exercise at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in Alaska, four combined units of both the countries were prepared and the four units were given two days to attack.
However, for this exercise, four units were sent to the war-zone through Chinook helicopters and military-vehicles of the US Army.
During this, the armies of both the countries attacked two mountains covered with high altitude and snow. Soldiers from both countries attacked these two fictional summits, Geronimo and Sight-summit, and took possession.
Soldiers from 7th Battalion and Madras Regiment from the Indian Army and 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) from the US Army and Paratroopers from 25th Infantry Division conducted various training programs during this period.
The responsibility of two of the four units was divided between the US Army and the Indian Army officers.
Meanwhile, the objective of the exercise was to hone combat skills in cold weather within the first ten days.
Along with this, survival-practices and military-training of soldiers in the Arctic region were to be carried out so that the armies of both countries could practice warfare in extreme cold in small units.
In the last round of the exercise, the troops of both the countries also practiced Counter Unmanned Aerial System ie Counter Drone and Counter-IED drill.
Apart from this, the armies of both countries also did yoga and physical exercises in cold weather and snow. Soldiers of both the countries also tried their hands on each other’s weapons.
This exercise is held every year between the armies of the India and the America in each other’s countries. That is, this year this exercise has been done in Alaska, America, and then next year it will be in India.
