New Delhi, 06 November: Two Indian Army officers Lt Col Sarvesh Dhadwal and Col Amit Bisht have been honoured with the prestigious Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2020 by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Dhadwal has been awarded for his skydiving activities and Col Amit Bisht has received Sena Medal for his land activities.
Colonel Amit Bisht is posted as Principal in Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarakhand. He has climbed more than 20 difficult peaks in India and abroad. He has also scaled the highest mountain on earth, Mount Everest. The honour, given as the first National Adventure Award, has been renamed after Tenzing Norgay, who along with Edmund Hillary was one of the first persons to summit Mount Everest in 1953.
It is India’s highly coveted highest adventure sports honour. The award is given every year by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to individuals who have made outstanding achievements in the field of adventure activities on land, sea and air in the last three years.
Lt Col Sarvesh Dhadwal is a skydiving instructor. He has also been in the technical support division of the top secret intelligence unit formed after the Mumbai attacks.
Presently, Dhadwal is the Chief Instructor of the Indian Army’s Skydiving Team. He has also given training in skydiving to the special forces of Indian Army and National Security Guard (NSG).
Since 2008 he has trained over 7,000 skydives and over 850 employees in 35 basic and refresher skydiving courses. He has given more than 5,000 skydiving trainings in the last five years. During this time he has received various certifications and licenses from the United States Parachuting Association.
