New Delhi, 06 November: Several major Muslim organizations of the country held a press conference at the Press Club of India today and demanded a high-level inquiry into the anti-Muslim violence in Tripura and strictest punishment to the culprits.
The press conference was attended by Naved Hamid, President of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, Engineer Salim Ahmed, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maulana Sheesh Tehmi of Jamiat Ahle Hadith, State President of All India Milli Council Dr Parvez Mian and Shams Tabrez Qasmi. etc. addressed.
Addressing the press conference, Naved Hamid said that a delegation led by him visited Tripura from October 31 to November 2 and reviewed the situation there.
He said that there were incidents of violence against Muslims in Tripura from October 19 to October 26. The role of the police in this case was not effective but the local people tried their level best to save the Muslims and their religious places.
He claimed that the perpetrators of the violence had come from outside in small groups and the local people are refusing to recognize them.
He told that the local people still have the zeal to help each other and they are living together in harmony. They say that the violence in Tripura is being depicted as a reaction to incidents of anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh during Durga Puja there. Had it been so, the local people would have been involved in this violence but we are happy to inform that the local people have nothing to do with this violence, but through them efforts have been made to save the religious places and their homes of the Muslims. This is the result of a well thought out conspiracy, which should be investigated and the culprits should be given the harshest punishment.
He told that when we were in Tripura, we tried to meet the Chief Minister but he did not give time to meet and neither the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tripura called us to meet while we both have written a letter in this regard. Information was sent. Tripura has always been a peaceful state but due to the antics of some mischievous elements, communal harmony has deteriorated here too. This needs to be stopped with immediate effect.
Engineers Salim Ahmed and Shams Tabrez Qasmi have also demanded a probe into the incident in Tripura, describing it as well-planned.
They appealed to the local residents to maintain peace, not to pay heed to rumours, not to believe in fake and baseless news circulating on social media.
