New Delhi, November 17: The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Tripura government while hearing a plea against registration of a case under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA)-1967 against a Delhi-based journalists and two lawyers for misleading posts on social media about Tripura.
Chief Justice NV Ramana directed the Tripura government not to take any coercive action against the petitioner for the time being.
In late October, a fact-finding team of four Delhi-based lawyers visited Tripura to investigate the recent attacks on Muslims. The four lawyers who had gone to Tripura include Ehtesham Hashmi, Amit Srivastava, Mukesh and Ansar Indori. These lawyers had put the Tripura government in the dock in the press conference. After that Tripura Police registered a case against them under UAPA and issued notice to them.
Tripura Police has cited 102 social media pages making comments about the Tripura incident and accused them of giving misleading information about Tripura.
Apart from this, notice has also been issued on Delhi-based journalist Shyam Meera Singh under UAPA.
