New Delhi, 14th December: The Central government has said that the need for a booster dose to protect against coronavirus disease is under consideration.
The Central Government has said in the affidavit filed in the Delhi High Court that the booster dose is being considered by expert scientific analysis.
The Central Government has further added that the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization and the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 are considering the technical aspects of the booster dose. The team of experts is considering the various vaccines to be given to prevent corona, the interval between them, etc. A decision will be taken on this only after some time.
On November 25, the High Court had asked the Central government whether it was necessary to take a booster dose to prevent corona. A bench headed by Justice Vipin Sanghi had asked the Central government what is the timeline if it is necessary to take a booster dose. The court had directed the Centre to file an affidavit in this regard whether a booster dose is necessary to protect against corona or not. If a booster dose is needed, when will it be started on the Arogya-Setu app?
The court had said that booster doses are being advocated in Western countries. The court had asked whether the people who have got both the vaccines of Corona need a booster dose.
The court had noted the opinion of the doctors that gradually the immunity is dying out. This is a matter of concern for the common people, especially the elderly or those who have other diseases. They want to know whether a booster dose is necessary for them or not.
The court had taken note of the fact that the vaccine is not being used in large quantities.
During the hearing, amicus curiae Rajasekhar Rao apprised the court of the functioning of the Delhi government’s website delhifightscorona.in. The court directed the Delhi government to file a status report regarding the working of this website.
