Lucknow, 06 January: Walmart and Flipkart signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state’s Export Promotion Bureau on Thursday with an aim to create an ecosystem for capacity building of MSMEs operating in the Uttar Pradesh government.
Under this partnership, Walmart and Flipkart will help the state’s MSMEs to digitize their businesses.
Along with this will enable them to sell products across India through online retail. MSMEs will get opportunities to be a part of Walmart’s global supply chain along with enhancing their export capabilities.
Regarding the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), MSME Minister Siddharth Nath Singh said that the MSMEs of Uttar Pradesh have made a mark in the world.
He added record exports have been registered in 2021. With the help of schemes like Rising Star and ODOP, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has created a wonderful ecosystem for MSMEs in the state. It is also helping them to boost exports and enter new markets. We are excited about the growth of Walmart and the tie-up with Flipkart. Through this program, we will also help to strengthen MSMEs and help them achieve new heights of success.
Nidhi Munjal, Vice President, International Partnership Services Walmart said about this partnership, โWe look forward to partnering with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to support their efforts to create a strong MSME ecosystem in the state. For this we intend to provide online and offline opportunities in India for them by providing training and support at the local level.
โWe will continue to strive to triple our Made in India exports from India to $10 billion by 2027 and give opportunities to small businesses to grow by supporting them at home and abroad,โ said Nidhi.
Jagjit Harode, Senior Director and Head Marketplace, Flipkart, said, โFlipkartโs partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government on the ODOP scheme has been a tremendous success and we have registered a quarterly growth of 52 per cent across various product categories since January 2020.
Through programs like Walmart Vridhi and Flipkart Samarth, we are committed to empowering MSME artisans and craftsmen in Uttar Pradesh to help them grow by leveraging their nationwide reach through the e-commerce marketplace.
Additional Chief Secretary MSME and Information Navneet Sehgal and other officers of the department were present on this occasion.
