Chandigarh, January 23: The Samyukta Samaj Morcha (SSM), a farmers’ organization that entered into the electoral battle of the Punjab, has declared Lakha Sidhana, accused of the Red Fort violence, as the candidate from the Maur assembly constituency of Bathinda district. The Morcha has so far released a list of around 100 people in Punjab.
Lakkha’s name had cropped up in the violence at the Red Fort in Delhi on January 26 last year. The police had then announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on him, after this Sidhana had fled.
In February, he was seen addressing a youth rally in Mehraj, a village under Bathinda’s Rampur Phool Vidhan Sabha. Mehraj is the ancestral village of former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh.
In 2012, Lakha had contested from Rampur Phool on the ticket of Manpreet Badal’s party People’s Party of Punjab. Lakha then got 10,065 votes. The Morcha has declared Balbir Singh Rajewal as the Chief Minister’s face in Punjab. After making Lakha the candidate, the political flurry in Punjab has intensified.
