New Delhi, February 03: The Central government on Thursday said that there is no system of reservation in the appointment of judges in the courts but it wants women, scheduled castes (SC) and tribes (ST) to be given priority whenever the collegiums recommends the appointment of judges.
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, said that out of 34 sanctioned posts for judges in the Supreme Court, 4 are women judges whereas 83 out of 1019 posts of High Courts are women judges.
He also said that the government is of the view that at the time of appointment of judges, considering all the qualifications and criteria, only suitable person should be appointed.
